On the morning of January 8, 2024, a devastating car accident unfolded on State Route 28 in the town of Shandaken, near Kingston, New York. The New York State Police are currently investigating the incident, which involved three passenger cars and a tractor-trailer, resulting in the tragic deaths of two Kingston High School students, Dillon Gokey and Jack Noble. At approximately 8:56 a.m., a Volvo tractor-trailer operated by Ramon LunaLuna, a 54-year-old from the Bronx, was heading east on State Route 28.
Preliminary investigations suggest that LunaLuna observed a Honda stopped on the roadway, waiting to turn north onto Route 212. Unfortunately, the tractor-trailer collided with the Honda from the rear, crossed over the double yellow line into the westbound lane, and collided head-on with a 2013 Hyundai Santa Fe. The impact caused the tractor-trailer to rollover. Subsequently, a 2018 Audi SQ5 traveling west struck the overturned tractor-trailer.
Tragically, all three occupants of the Hyundai were juniors at Kingston High School. Dillon Gokey, aged 16, and Jack Noble, aged 17, lost their lives in the accident. Joseph Sepesi, also 17 and from Port Ewen, was flown to Westchester Medical Center with serious non-life-threatening injuries. The operator of the Audi, fortunately, escaped without injuries.
